Beside the Seaside

More from Easter weekend in Whitby, including a dog in his element, a hungry seagull and Ross the seal...

We found this herring gull viciously attacking the remains of a fish and chip carton, making light work of the remaining mushy peas in the bottom...

This is Ross, a juvenile grey seal stranded on the beach between Whitby and Sandsend. When we came across him, he was being urged back to the sea after a (vitamin injection) by the East Coast Seal Rescue team and an encouraging crowd. It took a long time but he eventually made it, to cheers from the onlookers.

  1. There are some excellent pictures in this set. I particularly like the first one, which breaks the rules about having the subjects walking out of the picture, and the two black and whites. The dog is great, with all four paws off the ground and an almost perfect reflection in the pool. The one of the seagull and the chip wrapper is equally good, and would be improved further by cloning out the figure in the far right.

As for Ross, what can we say? Awwwwww.....
