Portraits

My parents gave me a Canon 50mm lens for Christmas and I've been itching to try it out since then. Finally, with the end of exams, I've had some time to relax and take some pictures. The original plan was to go up to Heaton Park and photograph the llamas, goats etc, but sadly the weather was horrible so I had to make do with photographing Christopher instead. This is my first go at portraiture so please be kind....

Manchester Cathedral

Exams are ongoing, so there still hasn't been much chance to get out and take photos, but here are a few taken before Christmas at Manchester Cathedral.

A Snowy Christmas

Christmas back home was lovely, snow in the countryside is much nicer than snow in the city. These pictures are a small sample of those I took over the holiday, from assorted locations. Hopefully more to come when I don't have to worry about exams so much...

A few more from Wells

Apologies for the gaps between posts, but I'm in the middle of exam season and haven't had much time to take or edit any photos. But here are a few more from the Wells trip over Christmas which didn't make into previous posts.

Flowers

Especially for my mum, who commented on my previous flower close-ups. Unfortunately, the only flowers I could find were a rather battered bunch from Tesco and the orchid from my room...

I also had a go at playing with some of the 'artistic' filters in Elements, and I really liked the cut-away effect on the rose:

After

Not having access to a studio or proper lights, I had to improvise with some black and white card and what lighting I could find in the flat. Prizes (well, kudos) for guessing how these flowers were lit:

Wells-next-the-Sea Part 2

These pictures were taken after a hearty fish and chip lunch in the village of Wells proper.

Wells-next-the-Sea

We took a bracing trip to Wells in Norfolk in the lull between Christmas and New Year. Sadly the weather was quite dull, and we got forced back into the car by a very heavy sea mist-cum-rain in the afternoon. Still had a lovely day and got some photographs out of it.
