Manchester Cathedral

Exams are ongoing, so there still hasn't been much chance to get out and take photos, but here are a few taken before Christmas at Manchester Cathedral.

  1. You've done remarkably well to hold the detail in the colour shots, as church interiors are notoriously difficult. There again, being Manchester I don't suppose the sun was shining! If you shot in RAW, have a go at a double conversion: one for the highlights and the other for the shadows. The two images can then be placed above one another on separate layers, and blended using a layer mask or the eraser tool at low opacity.

  2. I did shoot RAW, and these pics are only from single conversions, so I'll have a go at the double conversion and see if I can get more detail out of the shadows. Sadly most of the highlights have blown in the bottom picture, so there's not much more to recover in the stained glass...
